We talk a lot about the depth of our training and coaching opportunities and how it's essential to agent success, but what does that actually mean in practice? It means regularly providing opportunities to expand their knowledge and skillset so they can tackle what's impacting their businesses right now.

Recently, our top agents attended an event with speaker Terri Sjodin, a NYT bestselling author and nationally recognized sales expert. Stepping in as sales coach for the day, Terri went beyond the basics to provide a deeper understanding of what persuasive speaking really is and how it can be incorporated into business.

Here are just a few of Terri's helpful insights:
Film yourself to get an objective view of your delivery.
One of the first things Terri does with her clients is record them giving a presentation, and there's a good reason. Of the 12 most common presentation mistakes people make, four focus entirely on delivery. Mistakes such as distracting gestures or body language or speaking too quickly, using too many filler words, or relying too much on jargon. Despite these being common presentation faux-pas, most people don't realize they're committing them. So, get past the discomfort, hit record, and objectively assess where you can make some improvements.
Compelling arguments answer the question, "so what?"
Market share, experience, history — these are all great qualities to promote when speaking to clients, but they don't separate you from the competition. To provide truly compelling reasons, ask yourself, "so what? How does this help my buyer/seller?" Are you going to make the process faster, save them more money, or reduce their stress? Think about the real concerns that consumers have and speak to those.
Go into it with the right mindset.
Anyone can improve their persuasive presentation skills with practice and the right perspective. Regardless of where you are now or what's happening in the market, you're always in control of your mindset. Focus on each day and what you can do to show up and be heard.
At the end of Terri's presentation, attendees left with a new perspective and actionable methods they could start using in their businesses right away. Tap the image to the right to hear what agent Gayle Stellas from our Glenbrook office says about her experience.
